The Local Area

A couple of minutes’ stroll will bring you to the friendly, family-run village pub, The Forge Inn, serving real ales and excellent food. A little further away lies the River Esk, famous for salmon fishing. From the village, there are many public footpaths and bike tracks through the moorland and the spectacular countryside of the North York Moors National Park. You could take a nostalgic trip on a NYMR steam train from Grosmont, visit the Danby Moors Exhibition Centre or simply explore the pretty Esk Valley villages.

It’s just a few minutes’ drive or short bus ride to the popular seaside town of Whitby, with its long sandy beaches, narrow, cobbled streets and famous Abbey, reached by 199 ancient steps. Take a boat trip or a ride on the open top tour bus to see the sights of Whitby. Join a ghost walk or visit the Captain Cook Memorial Museum.

With so much to do in this wonderful area, you will want to return again and again to our immaculate barn conversion for a fabulous holiday at any time of the year.
