Family Friendly
Chestnut barn is a perfect base for many family friendly activities. Close by are numerous sandy beaches, perfect for building sandcastles and jumping the waves. The coastline here is well known for fossils and you can find many on the local beaches. Top 10 North York Moors experiences.
Chestnut Barn has a travel cot (bedding not provided), highchair and stairgate available for use. Beach towels, books and games are also provided to make your stay relaxing and enjoyable.
Some of my favourite local attractions for family days out are:
Sandsend:
A small fishing village near Whitby with quaint fishermen’s cottages centred around a stream. Fantastic long sandy beach and in walking distance to Whitby.
Whitby:
Whitby is the jewel of the Yorkshire coast. Discover all about Captain Cook, climb the famous 199 steps to St. Mary’s Church and Whitby Abbey. Stroll through cobbled streets with Georgian townhouses, discover hidden alleyways and learn about historic Whitby Jet.
Staithes:
Staithes is a picturesque old fishing village with cobbled streets. Parking is at the top and it can be quite steep to walk down for those less mobile. Fantastic art festival in September.
Runswick Bay (10 miles):
A sweeping, sheltered bay with charming, red-roofed cottages, one of the Yorkshire Coast’s prettiest destinations. Its sandy beach is a favourite for rock pooling, fossil hunting and coastal walks.

North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) (3 miles):
A historic steam railway running through the North York Moors. Daily return trains run from Whitby to Grosmont and Pickering during the summer season.
